A dog gets a makeover, literally

Reggie, an 18-month-old Shar Pei, was rescued by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in Brighton, England. Neglected by its owners, only 18 months old, he was in bad shape after living in unsanitary living conditions.

24 hour care

By the time the pup was found, his head was completely bald and he had severe skin lesions on his back. Also, Reggie’s wrinkled facial folds had an infection in his eyes. Reggie’s vision had become so bad that he required 24-hour eye care.

Vets at the RSPCA’s Sussex, Brighton and East Grinstead branch in Patcham, UK, decided a facelift was the best way to restore his sight. About two weeks ago he underwent major surgery to remove excess skin from her face.

It’s not uncommon for dogs like Reggie to have trouble with chubby facial folds, the RSPCA’s deputy head of dogs told the New York Post.

The dog has since recovered and no longer requires vision medication.
