Zapping World Fifteen Rugby: Top 15 highest paid players
Charles Ollivon was appointed captain by Fabien Galthié for the Barbarians’ match against England which took place on June 19 at Twickenham. This meeting ended in a solid victory for the Baa-Baas, with a score of 52 to 21.
Following this match, Fabien Galthié announced that the 19 French people selected for the “Barbarians” adventure would be traveling to Japan. The big return of Charles Ollivon in Blue is imminent. It could even be done with the captain’s armband? Indeed, as it is announced that many internationals will be put to rest, we can think that Antoine Dupont, the last captain of the XV of France, will not be in the game.
Far from focusing on him, Charles Ollivon prefers to talk about the group. In an interview with Planet Rugby, the third line of the RCT was impressed by the strong progress of the XV of France in recent months.
I’ve been so impressed with how the guys have developed over the past year. I guess that journey started in 2019 in Japan, where a lot of young players started to both bond and realize themselves, but also build towards our goals. This is not a group of 23, but a much larger group of exceptional players who have added real depth to the squad.
Charles Ollivon focuses in particular on two players whose work he praises. These two players evolve in his position since it is François Cros and Anthony Jelonch.
We’ve built in a lot of depth over the past few seasons. In my absence, François Cros and Anthony Jelonch were extraordinary. Our depth is such a big factor and these two guys were effective.
Anthony Jelonch even replaced Charles Ollivon twice since he also served as captain during the Blues’ tour of Australia last summer. It is true that the two Toulousans did a remarkable job during the absence of the Toulonnais. It is now up to him to (re)take over.
