The Google Maps navigation application adds a new tool to its service: the cost of your journeys according to tolls. A feature already deployed in four countries around the world and which should soon arrive in France.
In a press release published on April 5, 2022, the American company from Mountain View unveiled new features for its application. One of which could save you money.
Google Maps can now calculate the price of a car trip according to the official toll rates of the country, according to Frandroid. The app will take into account if you will be using a toll tag and can predict how much to pay depending on the day of the week you will be tolling it. The feature already built into Waze, which is owned by Google, provides price estimation through information shared by users.
This novelty, already available on nearly 2,000 toll roads in the United States, India, Japan and Indonesia, should soon arrive in France, without a precise date having been communicated by the company.
More eco-responsible routes
Faced with inflation and the increase in the price of oil, Google Maps also wants to lighten the wallet of its users thanks to faster and more ecological journeys.
The navigation app already offers in some countries alternative routes that will produce you consume as little fuel as possible, adds the specialized site Frandroid.
Available in London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo and New York, this feature “you show the most fuel-efficient route, saving you money on gas and reducing carbon emissions,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, at the announcement conference in May 2022.
This tool, which is not yet available in France, will be extended to “other places, especially in Europe, during the year”, added Sundar Pichai.
