LEINSTER-LA ROCHELLE KICKS OFF! (LEI 0-0 LR)

And here we go for this Champions Cup final between Leinster and La Rochelle! A 5th star for the Irish or a first European title for the Maritimes?

Stade Rochelais is not one of the favorites

This is the 5th time in the history of the European Cup that the final will pit a French club against an Irish province. In the four previous cases, the French team lost (Ulster-Colomiers in 1999, Munster-Biarritz in 2006, Munster-Toulouse in 2008 and Leinster-Racing in 2018).

La Rochelle, with Skelton, but without Kerr-Barlow

The first lesson is the tenure of the Australian colossus Will Skelton, in the second line alongside Thomas Lavault. A time announced forfeit for the rest of the season by his manager Ronan O’Gara, the Wallaby at the two European cups (2017 and 2019) with Saracens, played 14 minutes against Paris last Saturday and is finally there to challenge the ogre of Leinster. Just like the international rear Brice Dulin (36 selections), arrested for several weeks and who has resumed collective training.

The other uncertainty concerned the presence of New Zealand scrum-half Tawera Kerr-Barlow who broke a hand in half against Racing 92. And young Thomas Berjon (24) is therefore the starter behind the La Rochelle scrum. The other major package is that of the New Zealand third line Victor Vito (33 selections), injured in the left ankle against the Stade Français, last Saturday.

The composition of La Rochelle!

Duline; Leyds, Sinzelle, Danty, Rhule; (o) West, (m) Berjon or Kerr-Barlow; Haddad, Alldritt (cap.), Liebenberg; Skelton, Lavault; Atonio, Bourgarit, Priso.

Replacements: Bosch, Wardi, Sclavi, Sazy, Bourdeau, Retière, Botia and Favre

Leinster with Furlong and Lowe holders

On the Leinstermen side, the two main uncertain players, Irish international right pillar Tadhg Furlong (29 years old; 43 caps) and Clover XV winger James Lowe (29 years old; 8 caps), are indeed aligned by Leo Cullen.

In the starting XV of Leinster, there are no less than 13 Irish internationals, including the hinge Gibson-Park / Sexton, the third line Van der Flier-Conan-Doris or the pair of centers Garry Ringrose and Robbie Henshaw. Only wing Jimmy O’Brien and second line Ross Molony have never been capped with the Clover XV.

The composition of Leinster!

Keenan; O’Brien, Ringrose, Henshaw, Lowe; (o) Sexton (cap.), (m) Gibson-Park; Van der Flier, Conan, Doris; Ryan, Molonia; Furlong, Kelleher, Porter.

Subs: Sheehan, Healy, Ala’alatoa, McCarthy, Ruddock, McGrath, Byrne, Frawley
